Amanda Garnsay was born into a Navy family in California where she grew up with patriotism in her blood. When she was very young she began to love watching classic movies, dressing up in “retro” fashion and admiring the heroes in her life.
In particular, Amanda’s late great-uncle Edward Velazquez who served as a Naval Aviator during World War II, was an inspiration to her. Her style reminded him so much of the 1940s and his time in the service that he nicknamed her “Hollywood”. He would often tell her that she looked like the starlets of his time, which inspired her to keep up the pinup lifestyle. Other heroes in Amanda’s life include her grandfather, Robert Velasquez, who served in the Navy during the Korean War as well as her father, Brian Velasquez, who also served in the Navy during the 1980’s. All three of these honorable veterans taught Amanda what chivalry was, how to be a woman of her own mind, and that working hard will enable her to achieve anything she wanted.
In 2010, Amanda met Jeremy Garnsay, her husband, who is an OIF/OEF Air Force combat veteran. After marrying Jeremy, she became even more involved in military community activities, patriotic events and became more educated on all aspects of military life. This renewed passion for patriotism inspired her to become a part of something bigger than herself. At this time, Amanda discovered the Pinups for Patriots organization where she could blend her longtime enthusiasm for the pinup lifestyle and her appreciation towards the military together. She became a member in 2013.
Amanda became the CEO of Pinups for Patriots shortly after her husband’s diagnosis with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, more commonly known as PTSD. She has witnessed firsthand the struggles and internal fight many military veterans experience, and has seen how the lack of easily accessible resources affects our veterans. In light of Amanda’s recent experience researching and learning about the various processes and resources available to veterans everywhere, she has become highly motivated in wanting to help other individuals gain access to the help they so desperately need.
Amanda is a stay-at-home mother of three children who loves to cook for her family and friends, attend to car shows, and learn more about the world around her each day.
