Karen J Kacynski
Consultant – Katiris Design
Marketing Specialist – Muskegon Area Transit System
Karen J Kacynski became familiar with all things pin up when asked to organize a pinup contest for one of Michigan’s largest car events where she was serving as Marketing Director. Having a love of the 40s from her mother, Karen jumped in. Three contests and many friendships later, she became hooked on the look and decided to dabble in the community herself. Friends made through the contest encouraged her to join them in Pinups for Patriots. Passionate about veterans and the issues they face, the organization was a perfect fit for her talents.
With a BS degree in Advertising/Public Relations from Grand Valley State University, Karen has more than 30 years of experience in graphic design, website and social media management, marketing/advertising, copy writing, event management and fundraising. Past work includes Senior Marketing Coordinator for Celebration! Cinemas , Fundraising Associate for Hospice of Michigan, Communications Officer for Housing Resources, Inc. and her current position of Transit Marketing Specialist for Muskegon Area Transit System.
She has served on numerous committees over the years, most recently in a consultant capacity as Marketing Director for the 28th Street Metro Cruise in Grand Rapids, MI. In the five years as director, Karen’s marketing efforts increased attendance at the event by 50k people, created a consistent and integrated marketing effort and streamlined the sponsorship program. In addition to the Pinups for Patriots board, she is on the board of Pretties for Pitties, a Michigan-based Pitbull advocacy group.
Karen has her own company, Katiris Design, which serves for her consulting work, as well as handmade accessories she designs. She resides in West Michigan in her childhood home where she cares for her 93-year-old father and five cats.
